Surrounded by rolling hills, Cherokee Valley Golf Club has a beautiful setting and temperate climate that draws visitors from all over the state. It feels peacefully tucked away but the course is only minutes from downtown Greenville's attractions. The challenging layout features eleven lakes and more than 50 strategically placed bunkers. The dramatic elevation changes provide even more challenges. It is seemingly a very intimidating golf course but the wide fairways and clean rough make it much more forgiving than it looks. The fifth hole is the golf course's signature. There is a beautiful cascading waterfall on this hole as well as a stunning view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Cherokee Valley G.C. is known almost as much for its practice facility as it is for the golf course. The popular, state-of-the-art facility includes a triple-tiered driving range, two putting greens, and a chipping green.

Sorry, have to pass on Cherokee Valley in the future

Cherokee Valley needs some help. Started with a surly greeting from the woman at the Pro Shop. Seems as if she did not want to be there. This was our first time at the course and saw mixed reviews but were open to having a nice day. The course was in decent shape for November, some tee boxes were in bad shape, as were some areas around the greens. We were paired up with a great twosome, also booked a Hot Deal. Things went well until the 14th green. Our carts began to die quickly. Called the pro shop, they sent out a worker, who traded them out, we were the sixth cart to die. Seems they were not charged the night before. There was only a small snack window, the two gals inside, were rude, also seems they did not want to be there.
The length for red tees were a lot shorter than the white tees, rating of 116 was not correct, much more difficult, played longer. The greens were not only difficult, they penalized almost every approach shot. The pace of play was slow. No marshall. Hard to believe folks would not move along in the winter when sun gets low earlier and it got cold. We ended at 5:00, should have ended at 4:00.
There are many nice courses in the Greenville, SC area that want you to play in the winter and make an effort to make things nice. I believe Cherokee Valley relies on the summer months, so we will pick another course next week.

cant put much faith in this review, with a 25 handicap as an advanced player, maybe they could use some help. i've played this course close to 30 times and have never had ANY problems other than the course whipping me. Golf is not a drive thru at McDonalds, if you don't have time to play-- stay home

Great course for the $25 Golfnow deal!!!!

The course was in immaculate condition for the time of year. Greens were superb and fast. You can't just grip and rip at this course. Lots of tee shots that need to be placed in the right spots and you will use most every club in the bag. First time playing the course and look forward to going back time and time again. Course knowledge will come in handy in future rounds.

Well maintained throughout, from Tee Box through the Green. If you like target golf, you will love this course!

Cherokee Valley is a well maintained golf course that challenges you to put the ball in a specific location if you want to score. Missing the target, area can be penalizing.

Mountain views with good mix of challenging & short risk reward holes

Plenty of elevation changes on the back 9 and an awesome mountain view.
Several shorter holes require some strategic shot placements make for a great risk/reward challenge.
While plenty of room to hit fairways a miss can be very penal.
Greens were fantastic with plenty of speed.

Not for beginners!

Played this course many years ago and found it almost miserable... several extremely quirky holes. While the quirky holes remain, the condition of the course, and especially the perfect-- and speedy-- greens made up for any design shortcomings. A real gem, can't wait to go back! Very slow (4 1/2 hours) on our day of play, but might've been due to tournament in front.

The greens are slick as lightning

The course is in great shape, and the greens are true - but very fast, chipping requires a deft touch.

Great deal

The course was in great condition even after 2 inches of rain the night before. There are some really challenging tee shots that require a ride up the fairway to see what/where to hit. The greens were in great shape. The pace of play was slow. There are vacation homes to rent for a stay and play vacation. This seemed to make people forget about pace of play or letting others through. A Marshall on the course would easily resolve this problem. Overall a great deal and great course.

Beauty for great price....

If you want a challenging course with great mountain views, challenging rough if you miss the fairways, and a little water here and there on the Front Nine, then this course is a great pick. This course is absolutely Beautiful and for the price is my favorite by far. I would recommend for anyone to take visitors in Greenville area up to this course.

Slow Round of Golf

The round was very slow had to wait on every shot. On the back nine ran into two fivesomes which may be the reason for the slow play. I assume they allow members to play in fivesomes. Course is in good shape. Ride a cart this is a housing development course with a lot of distance from green to the next tee.

Beautiful place to play

I played on 8/13/13. Course was beautiful... The consistency of the greens was a little frustrating as most played fast and others slow, but all and all it was great. The staff in the pro shop was great and I actually have had a chance to speak with one of the owners on a different occasion. On the turn we had the opportunity to get a bite at the snack bar... A little pricey but the food was of good quality. The only downside I found to this course was the grounds keeping staff.. They're often rude and condisending. As I was putting on the 6th or 7th green they were making repairs to a bridge... I said "hello" to be friendly
And they looked at me as if I was on fire... They then proceeded to make an abundance of noise and act as if I wasn't there. I have other example of their shanageins but I want to speak more of the course... It's beautiful. The par 3 on the back 9 overlooking the mountains is my favorite hole in South Carolina. This course is a must. It is well worth the money.
