Northwoods Golf Course
About
Northwoods Golf Club is one of the Columbia area's premier public courses. P.B. Dye, son of renowned course architect Pete Dye, designed the layout, incorporating some of his father's signature features. The golf course is player friendly enough to appeal to any skill level but there are some challenges in store as well. Mature trees line most of the fairways and there are a few strategically placed bunkers that come into play. You won't come across much water on this golf course and it's not terribly long either. It's gentle enough for beginners to approach with confidence. The golf course's signature hole is the par-4 14th, which features the famous Dye railroad ties bordering a lake that hugs the bunkered green. Northwoods G.C. also offers a practice facility with a lighted driving range and putting green.

Painfully slow
We waited on every single shot, and after 12 holes figured it wasn’t worth the pain. Interesting layout, but pretty rough tee boxes and thin in the fairways. Not a good value
SC Gem
Made a trek down South to escape the Midwest weather and catch a practice round of the Masters. Nice course, great layout, had rained quite a bit so not fair to comment on the upkeep of the course. Would definitely play if back in SC.. Definitely the nicest of the Columbia area courses.

Enjoyable round
Enjoyed the course. Fairways still looked to be in winter mode some. Heavy rains in last couple days made the course fairly wet in spots so cart path only for carts.. greens were firm and in good shape. Cart paths are a bit “rugged” in places.
Greens in good shape but fairways, rough and fringe thin
Still in winter golf condition. Ball will roll very far on the fairways (good) but if your roll of the green it just keeps rolling (not so good). Had a couple of foursomes that were dog slow and quit after 9 holes seeing the backup. Just one of those days

Lots of bare spots in fairways - greens very slick!
Had a beautiful day in the mid 70's to play. The course is very forgiving if you have a stray shot on many holes but holding a pitch shot onto the green was tough today! The ball seemed to roll endlessly and then fall of the green given no real fringe to stop it. When you add a 20+mph continuous wind to the mix, once a ball started rolling on the green the wind would really push it along! Putting was also quite the challenge in lagging longer putts up close to the hole. There we also a number of wet and muddy spots in the fairways.
All in all it was a great day though to play given no playing pressure from behind and therefore I was able to work our a few kinks in my swing walking as a single. Definitely enjoyed the course and will be back.
Nice folks, Great value
The course marshall was especially friendly. Our foursome had a nice round.
Really Good course
This was a really good course. Not great, but I would definitely play it again. The front nine is a little tighter and requires good strategy, where the back nine felt more open allowing for more aggressive play. My only issue was the range was closed the day I played so I was not able to warm up. The the course and putting greens were in great shape for the off season.
Attendant from the barn were a little rude. Took so long to assist due. But the ranger were nice and approachable.

First Time
Decent course, friendly staff but very rushed play. Tee times not spaced out, felt rushed at every hole on a Thursday afternoon….

Nice local course
This course has made many improvements over the last few years. Most are great improvements. They need a few more to get this course to the 5 stars it can be. The two areas that need immediate improvements are the drainage, bunkers, and cart paths. I know it’s a process in getting courses improved and they have done a great job with cutting down trees and getting the tee boxes and greens in great conditions. The drainage is a real problem here though. If we get any rain the course stays wet for days. This needs to be improved for sure. Great layout and fun to play.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the team. Thanks for visiting Northwoods Golf Course, and we hope to see you again in the future.
