About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
Originally opened in 1988 as a private club called Crickentree, the course changed its name and opened to public when it changed ownership in 1996. The golf course is known for its beautiful setting that has everything from meandering streams to towering hardwoods. There is also a scenic 17-acre lake that comes into play on a few holes. The risk-reward layout appeals to players of all skill levels. With good course management, the rewards are plenty, but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The golf course is just over 7,000 yards from the back tees, equipped with holes that will please long hitters as well as shorter, trickier holes.

Very Disappointed
I'm glad I got a Hot Deal when I played this course or I would have demanded a refund. This course is in worse shape than any of the courses I have played in Columbia. The greens have more spots than a dalmatian and the bunkers had turned into weeds and ponds. Very disappointed and will not be back. There was a par 3 that would have been decent if there were not tire tracks with dead grass all over the green. See picture attached. No food in clubhouse. We had crackers for lunch.
Our Round
Must play - Excellent course
terrible course conditions
Greens were beat up pretty bad. Fairways almost indistinguishable from the rough.
Great layout horrible conditions
Played in a scramble, was warned greens would be better than putting green, they look horrible but were fast, bunkers in awful , no food service , 3 shirts in golf shop
Not worth playing with these conditions
It's a nice layout that is not in such great shape. The greens were patches of grass and dirt and virtually unputtable. We were originally going to play 36 here, but opted to find another course after the first round. There are some nice scenic holes, and plenty of challenge for any level golfer, but I cannot recommend a course in this poor conditions, especially on the greens, to anyone else.
Course
Very very rough. Needs lots of work.
Favorite layout in Columbia
I've played most of the courses in the Columbia area and Crickentree is by far my favorite layout. It's not your typical airport runway fairways - club selection comes in to play and an ability to work the ball as well.
As of 3/16 Bermuda grass is coming in nicely. Great place to play, particularly for the $$$ and low crowds.
Highly recommend.
Worst conditions ever
I have played golf here off and on for over 16 years. This course is in the worst shape I have ever seen it. The greens are awful and are like a lot of fairways at very nice courses. The bunkers are terrible. Cloth coming though low laying sand areas in the bunkers. Just terrible. Looks like the owner and management don't care about maintaince. Don't waste your time or money at this place.
Dog Track
This use to be one of the nicest courses in the area about 10 years ago. The management does not reflect the terrible conditions of the course in there prices. Everything is basically junk around there.Do not pay for Masters price.
Buyer beware...
To the point- practice facilities were terrible. $3 for a bag of 15 practice balls!?! Pro shop was extremely unhelpful and borderline condescending. (I'm sorry I dress nice for golf). Clouds opened up and dropped rain after 6 holes. Course drains horribly bad. Lightning and flooding, but no horn!?! Would not issue a rain check. Not worth any amount of hard earned money. As an active duty soldier, I was extremely disappointed to have spent my money on this "course". Never again!!
Horrible Condition
This course could be great, the problem is that the conditions make this place almost unplayable. I think at one point this was a nice course. The layout is great and with some renovations and improved conditions, it could be great again. The fairways were just patches of weeds and the greens were so bad that my dad and I invoked an automatic two putt rule. Stay away from this course.
Saturday Crickentree
Pulled up to clubhouse Saturday 10AM 3 cars in parking lot. Should have turned around right then. Course was an absolute muddy mess. Leaves everywhere. Greens were burnt. Lack of cart paths meant you had to drive through flooded fairways all day. Course shouldn't have been open considering these conditions. Obvious mowers haven't touched the course in a long time. Their solution...Over-Seed everything, everywhere in the fairways/rough. Hate writing negative reviews but this was the biggest waste ever for a $35 round of golf! Maybe next year but for now def play somewhere else locally
course Conditions
This was a first time playm Overall the course was a callenging layout. The course was very wet as a result of recent rains.
Great shape considering the recent weather
Considering the area was under a flood emergency, the course was in very good shape except for the bunkers which were pretty much washed out. The staff was repairing the bunkers all day. Greens were in nice shape. We paid $10 each to play, which was an incredible value. We basically had the course to ourselves which was great. Course is challenging. Will definitely play there again.
These greens are calling all golfers
Perfect weather, greens were mint, only bad point was the clumps of recently mowed grass through the greens on a lot of holes. With golfnow discount, only paid 12.00 for 18 with a cart.
Nice layout
I have played this course several times and love the overall layout. However, since I have played it last it seems to have got a little rough around the edges. For instance, there were areas around the course in desperate need of a trim as well as water and grass in some bunkers. The greens were rolling good and as always the tight fairways and doglegs challenge you on every hole. You must be able to hit your longer irons u less you can play like a pro. It is a must to stay out of the woods of you want to save your score. Very challenging layout, fun course to play if you have never played it.
Fun course, No facilities
Course is in good condition, however most of the greens had annoying patches of crabgrass that needs to be removed. There is no clubhouse and there wasn't any food options for the turn. It's a fun course to play, but that's all.
Great course. For now.
The course itself was in very good shape and, for the $25 each we paid, was an AWESOME value. Challenging but not overly-difficult. Unfortunately it may not last. We played on a Sunday and almost had the place to ourselves. The restaurant was shut down and the clerk gave us each several passes to come back for $20. Hopefully they pull through whatever's going on as it really is a nice course.
Great Layout Desperately in Need of TLC
This is like a beautiful antebellum home with a tree growing through the middle and ivy growing through it's rooms. They have either been bankrupt or are in the process of going bankrupt....Attached are pics of the bunkers on Holes 1 and 2..Many bunkers on the course are simply unplayable with little sand, fabric kicked up or full of water (no drainage).
Very little of the course is manicured...even the entrance is overgrown and appears neglected.
Note: The layout is tremendous and if you can shape your shots, can post a good score from blues...
But I won't be back...until ownership starts taking care of the greens, fairways, cart paths and bunkers...Really surprised the high dollar property owners have allowed this course to erode (like much of the grounds as you go around this course). They are buidling $200k+ houses all around this course and maybe they can get a cash infusion from new membership? Or maybe they are getting ready to sell the property to build another neighborhood? Cart paths are tree root buckled making it tough on the back....a note that course design also has you walking around long bunkers between the cart path and the greens, which I don't see on many courses. One encouraging sign was mushrooms growning on some the fairways indicating some organic material is left for the grass to grow. Sorry, but this is not an old course..(it looks like it should be from the 60s)... and I was upset to see this level of neglect from Hole 1 and 2 and it really didn't get any better.
My thoughts exactly. The layout is awesome but the conditions take away the joy of playing. Will not return until something changes. I agree with you in that I can't believe that those homeowners haven't done something about this eyesore.
