Good Course
My son and I enjoyed the round there. We are around 12 and 18 handicaps, played from the blue tee boxes. The fairways are not as narrow; the rough are as challenging, somehow penalizing for getting there; the greens and bunkers are OK; the pace are good.
On the rebound
There was a time in the not to distant past that this course was a disaster. I’m glad to say that it is definitely on the mend. Greens are in good shape and are very soft. Fairways look great and the layout has always been good. If haven’t played here in a while, you should give another chance.
Very impressed
I have played Skybrook no less than probably 50 times. The course has been in great shape the past 2 times. Fairways are immaculate and greens are mostly great, with only a select few bad spots. Tee boxes have been maintained well and it is obvious that the folks at Skybrook have taken an active attempt at the upkeep of the course. Very satisfied.
A must play.
I really love the layout of the course. Uphill and downhill holes. Nice greens that are very receptive to the ball. A challenge for any skill level.
Hard work paying off
As far as public courses go; this layout is second to few or none in the area. Elevation changes, scoreable holes, tough holes, great par 3's, the total package. The amount of progress they have made as far as the conditioning of the course in the last 18 months is remarkable. The bunkers are a work in progress; but the maintenance staff is working hard on fixing them one by one. The greens roll good for bent grass in this warm climate I just wish people would fix their ball marks!!! I try to fix 3-4 every hole due to others carelessness. Aside from the golf; the staff in the pro shop and bar/ grill area is second to none. Mike and Tim in the pro shop go above and beyond to ensure the best possible experience and the bartenders are always on point and super friendly. I definitely recommend this course and if you've been turned off by the conditioning from 2012-2015 I'd say give it another shot; it's improving everyday. Keep up the good work guys!!!
Skybrook
Layout has always been one of the better layouts in the Charlotte area but the greens and general course conditions around the edges is not what it once was. Greens were bumpy with various grasses growing in the greens.
Making a Comeback
Looks like this course is trying to get back to what it once was 12 or so years ago. Skybrook is a nice layout with great potential, but still needs a little work in some areas. The biggest issues were the fairway and greenside bunkers. Every bunker on this course was either filled with water or totally washed out. Correcting this issue would make the course ten times more aesthetically pleasing and more playable. The greens at Skybrook were aerated on 9/5 but they were still okay considering. In another week or so they should be alright, other than a few bare spots here and there on a few greens. These spots aren't horrible and are typical on bent grass greens this late in the summer due to heat stress. The tee boxes and fairways were in good/great shape and the head pro and his staff were very friendly and hospitable. On a scale of 1-10, I would score Skybrook 6.5 right now with potential to be a few points higher very soon. I'll definitely be playing here again, and I hope to continue to see work being put into this course. Skybrook is a very good course and it looks to be making a solid comback.
Bunker problems
First time playing in couple weeks, for the most part the course is in great shape. The only exception would be the bunkers. Most of them need more sand added and some had weeds growing in them, most of them were hard packed and pretty much unplayable. Some even had standing water and we really haven't had that much rain in over a week.
Skybrook 7/18
The course is in really nice condition. The layout is great. There was a little brown patch creeping in on one of the greens, but for the most part they roll great. They biggest problem with the greens around here is people not fixing their ball marks.
On the Comeback
Played here mid-week and had a really good time. You can tell the new management is putting money and effort back into this course. The bunkers were unplayable but the pro shop made that clear and local rule was free relief if you hit into them. Very fun layout with elevated tees and some forced carries. Five tee boxes to choose from so no issue finding one to fit your game. The greens were in good shape and rolling well. We played after three weeks of consistent rain so no run out in the fairways and it was cart path only. Will definitely go back when it is a little drier and to see more of the progress being made. Great value at less than $40 and that included lunch.
Great value!!
The course greens are in great condition and there is a very noticeable improvement to this course from last year overall since Pinnacle Golf Management took over Spring of 2017. Skybrook recently got new carts, re-sodded patchy areas, and their management Mike & Tim and their staff are focused on the golfer 's experience.
excellent
This course was excellent. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I'll definitely play here again.
Great track
I haven’t played this course since last Sept/Oct. because how bad the course had gotten, fairways had no grass, one of the greens was closed (#12), and knee deep grass out of the fairway’s and around some of the greens, and because 25/30 dollars to pay for a course this bad of shape was not worth it to me. So last week I went to GOLFADVISOR and SKYBROOK had received lots of good reviews.
Well I played the course today, All the tee boxes, fairway’s and greens are in great shape, the sand traps do need some work. We have had some heavy rains over the last few weeks. I’m sure the staff at Skybrook will see that the sand traps get the attention that is needed. I will be back to play this course at least once a mo.
Renewed Interest
This is the first time I had played SGC in more than ten months. I was pleasantly surprised with the conditions. Overall the course has improved significantly since last year. The tee to green quality is much improved. The greens are in the best condition i have seen them in over five years. The fairways are still a little thin ,but it is early. Bunkers will need continued work to mitigate the drainage issues, but Pinnacle Golf is working on it.
Great Layout and almost perfect!
Played this course on Easter Monday and the weather was great. The course tee to green is in almost perfect condition. Except for a couple of green, they were immaculate and rolled true. Some patchy fairways and tee boxes, but not a big problem seeing how everything is just greening up. Bunkers in great shape. Practice range was good and balls were in great shape.
