Seabrook Island's "Village" Offers Lowcountry Living just South of Charleston
By Shane Sharp,
Contributing Writer
SEABROOK ISLAND, SC - Seabrook Island Resort sits just 30 minutes south of Charleston, but with its isolated island setting and ocean front address, it might as well be an entire world away. Unlike most golf resorts, which rely on heavy volumes of tourists staying in hotel and villas, Seabrook is primarily residential.
Driving into the resort, the island's older, stately homes appear with their huge porches, mature lawns, and enviable views of the resort's two championship golf courses. Play on the Willard Byrd designed Ocean Winds Course and the Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed Crooked Oaks Course is reserved for members and guests of the resort only, so the playing experience is exclusive, to say the least.
Living at Seabrook has to be one of the area's best-kept secrets. The historical charms and never ending entertainment possibilities of Charleston are just minutes away. Yet, driving out to Seabrook Island past the old plantations and the groves of ancient Live Oaks, you would never guess that one of the state's largest metropolitan areas is just a five-iron away.
The Village
Seabrook Island Realty recently introduced the island's newest residential community, The Village at Seabrook. The Village at Seabrook is a 42-acre development that combines the neighborly feel of island communities from the past with the detailed and varied amenities of a modern day neighborhood.
"We are pleased to introduce The Village at Seabrook," said Joe Bradford, Broker-in-charge at Seabrook Island Realty. "The Village offers prospective home buyers the flexibility to personally interact with the development of their future residence while also offering them the amenities that only true Lowcountry neighborhoods can."
Home plans in The Village at Seabrook range in size from 1,700 to 3,200 square feet and feature cedar paneling, gracious moldings, deep-toned heart pine or oak floors, tongue and groove treated decking, tiled bathrooms and laundry areas, Corian countertops, General Electric Profile Appliances, Emtek hardware, nine-foot smooth ceilings, Safe-n-Sound interior doors, gas fireplaces and state-of-the-art security systems. The homes are modeled after a traditional "beach community" and will feature metal roofing, covered porches and an abundance of windows.
The amenities in The Village at Seabrook present residents with a true
Lowcountry lifestyle. The Village has two swimming pools, a picnic area,
and an oyster shed all located on the six-acre Palmetto
Lake, which is stocked with fish and surrounded by a landscaped
walking path. Landscaping at The Village will include palm, oak and
magnolia trees, wild flowers and the natural vegetation of the area.
The
island also features the Bohicket Marina, which offers residents
shops, restaurants, boating and fishing. The area is environmentally
sound with the preservation of hundred-year-old oak trees and
the prevalence of wildlife. Homeowners at The Village at Seabrook
will also be able to participate in the many amenities that the
island offers through a Seabrook Island Club membership. The membership
will include access to The Racquet Club, the equestrian center,
the recreation center and Seabrook Island's two Audubon sanctioned
golf courses, Crooked Oaks and Ocean Winds.
"These are neotraditional type neighborhoods with a real sense of community," says Bradford. "It is more of a family vacation type place. Many of the units have double master bedrooms. It is just inside the gate and its just five minutes from the ocean."
Bradford says that home prices will range from $500,000 to $750,000.
