Pinehurst's No. 2 Course is considered the resort's centerpiece and one of Donald Ross' greatest masterpieces. The course has been host to more single golf championships than any other course in the country and Jack Nicklaus has even said that it's his "favorite course from a design standpoint." When the course was completed in 1907, Ross called it "the fairest test of championship golf [he] has ever designed." The layout provides golfers with a multitude of strategic choices and risk-reward opportunities. All of your skills will be put to the test, from your driving ability to your short game, so be prepared to use all the clubs in your bag. The crowned, undulating greens are the trademark of the course. Known for their subtle complexities, the greens present some of the layout's toughest challenges. You'll also have to contend with more than 110 strategically placed bunkers. Pinehurst No. 2 hosted both the U.S. Open and U.S. Women's Open in June 2014.

Should you play #2? YES. But once will do. The other Pinehurst courses are exceptional as well and in some cases more plush. I recommend playing #7 and #8 if you can. They are a bit "off site" but the scenery is wonderful and course designs are exceptional as well. Also less crowded and quiet - away from "grand central" that surrounds courses #1 through #6.
Worth a trip for any avid golfer.
