Davis Love III had at his disposal a beautiful palette on which to lay his first course, Ocean Creek Golf Course at Fripp Island Resort in 1995.
The golf course meanders through dense tropical vegetation, emerges alongside a vast river, and darts over dune lines. The Ocean Creek course is for members and resort guests only. What that means is a good pace on a course that plays quickly through some great tropical scenery that serves as the setting for Disney's "Jungle Book," which was filmed here just before the course opened in 1996.
The golf course itself is a little congested, with the holes packed in tightly among a lot of nearby cottages and condos. But the design makes great use of the marsh terrain. Seemingly miles of raised cart paths meander through the marsh, giving golfers a lot of opportunities to donate some balls into the drink.
It's a short course where brains, not muscle is required. It will put your accuracy to the test.
