NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The 2,300-acre Barefoot Resort & Golf is perhaps the most complete vacation destination on the Grand Strand. It is certainly the largest with 14 pools (one for each residential community), biking and jogging trails, four golf courses and sprawling accommodations in several condo towers and neighborhoods. One of the pools is South Carolina's largest.
The Davis Love III, Tom Fazio and Greg Norman courses all operate out of one clubhouse. The Dye Course, designed by Pete Dye, is more expensive -- and exclusive -- and operates out of a separate clubhouse nearby.
The Love Course winds around the ruins of an old plantation house at Nos. 4 and 6. The Fazio Course is typical Tom, just a fun place to play. Barefoot's Norman Course isn't as scenic, but it does feature several great par 3s on the Intracoastal Waterway.
Out front of the resort are more than 60 shops and restaurants at Barefoot Landing, such as great dining at The House of Blues and Greg Norman's Australian Grille, and entertainment for adults (Alabama Theatre) and the family (Alligator Adventure).
