Attendance to the Palmer Cup is open to the public and free of charge. The schedule for the event is as follows:
Wednesday, July 9 (10:30 a.m.), Opening ceremonies and flag-raising at Cassique clubhouse (closed to general public).
Thursday, July 10 (8 a.m.), Four-ball matches (1 p.m.), Singles matches.
Named in honor of legendary golfer Arnold Palmer, the Palmer Cup alternates each year between the U.S. and Europe. (Note: This marks the first year players from throughout Europe have been invited to participate. Previously, the event was limited to players from Great Britain and Ireland.)
In 2002, the Palmer Cup was held at Doonbeg Golf Club in County Clare, Ireland, and coincided with the club's grand opening. The U.S. team defeated the Great Britain and Ireland squad by a final score of 15-1/2 to 8-1/2; however, 15 of the 24 matches were not decided until Doonbeg's 18th hole. Overall, the U.S. team leads the Palmer Cup Series, 4-1-1, and has won all three matches in the United States.
