First Victory Over South Carolina
First Victory Over South Carolina
(MARCH 19, 2001) - Day two competition took an early look like a tough match for all. However, after Team Ontario only allowed the South Carolina boys two and one half points on todays front nine, the outcome was seemingly apparent.
Bay Tree s Gold Course proved a tough opponent for both teams as the weather conditions were slightly less than favorable.
Under prevailing northern winds, Team Ontario managed to have three complete shutouts of todays eight matches.
Three Canadians came out strong today and won all three allowable points in the individual competition. Those three were Peter Moore, Brent Marsh, and Shawn LaFontaine.
The team from South Carolina had on Kevin Kisner take all three points from his opponent, Richard Scott. The only other boys from SC to earn points were Stephen Poole, with one and one half; Alex Hamilton with one and Brian Duncan with a half.
The team from Ontario was honored to hold the cup for the first time in this three year old competition. But like their coach Brent McLaughlin said, We dont come down here with winning in mind, we just like the opportunity for the kids to get together and share experiences.
After the completion of the matches, there was a short presentation of the trophy and a special thanks given to Bay Tree for allowing us the privilege of coming to play on their golf course.
