Course makes debut on CGA major championship scene
WEST END, NC April 6-8 the Carolinas Golf Association will conduct the 8th North Carolina Mid Amateur Championship at River Landing in Wallace. This marks the first time that River Landing has hosted a CGA major championship.
Mitch Adams returns to defend the title he won a year ago at Treyburn CC in Durham. In 2000, the Cary resident shot a three-day total of 213 to finish three strokes ahead of runner-up, Steve Jones of Oak Ridge.
Other top players scheduled to compete this year are Paul Simson, Bob Stanger, and Macon Moye. Simson, a Raleigh resident, is the 1997 NC Mid Am title holder and the winner of ten CGA majors. Durhams, Bob Stanger is the 1996 and 1999 champion in this event and Moye, who hails from Charlotte, won the NC Mid Am in 1998.
Also competing at River Landing will be Wallace hometown favorite, Michael Judge.
The River Landing course will play to a par of 72 over 7009 yards.
The NC Mid Amateur championship is a 54-hole, stroke play event. To compete, players must be at least 30-years-old and have an index of 5.4 or less.
