WORST GOLF COURSE EVER!
This is the worst golf course I have ever played. The greens were in terrible shape and appeared to be painted green. We visit the Hilton Head area frequently and have played most of the local courses. Do yourself a favor and avoid this one! The locals refer to the course as "Island Worse". The entire course felt like you were playing on a solid rock. I would not recommend this course to anybody.
C ourse is ok if want to go,out and play if your coming off the north winter . Right now fairways are hard and dry. grens very bumpy, hard.. If you haven't played and you don't want to spend a lot of money this course might be for you. At this point and time would only recommend for above reasons
Good Layout But Greens and Tee Boxes Need Help
Island West can be a great course. The layout has many challenging holes. Staff is courteous and efficient.
Some greens have many burned out patches and many tee boxes are dried out and without grass.
Most sand traps have insufficient sand and are "hard-panned".
BUT, this course can be an excellent course with a little more investment.
Hopefully, being early in the season (we played in mid-March), these issues will be addressed.
Great value for the money!!
This course is not what it used to be
I have played this course many times over the years and have always enjoyed the layout and found the conditions very good for the price. Last time was March 2016. What a difference a year makes. Condition of greens was very poor. Tee boxes and fairways were sparse, hard and dry. And to top it off, pace of play was horrible. No ranger to be found on the course, no starter.
Food inside the clubhouse was good for the money and the few staff people we found were very friendly. If not for the super low price we paid to play it would have horrible. I guess you get what you pay for.......
average course
good course for the price. Greens not in great condition. Brown needs to put some money into more regular maintenance
Do Not Play Here
I have been in the Bluffton area for a week and have played 5 courses, all of them aside from Island West have been in excellent shape for this time of year. The greens have been rolling really good until we got to Island West. They do not even have grass on them. It is dirt that is painted green to make the course look appealing from the road. Don't waste your time. Spend the extra $10 and play at Pinecrest.
worst course in south carolina
Do not your time or money we played 20 dollars I would have rather wadded up a 20 dollar bill and throwed it off a bridge at least that wouldn't have been a waste of time
Greens and tee boxes need work
i have always liked this course, unless it is wet or in bad condition. It was not wet but greens were worst i have seen them, so much so that it effected the results of the chips and putts.
Rough greens
Course was challenging, I played from the white tees, but mostly it was difficult due to the course conditions. especially the greens that were hard and bumpy like putting on rough concrete. The course layout was great - tee shots required accuracy and forced you to think about your club selection.
Needs A Lot Of Work!
What could be a nice course needs a lot of work in all areas. Allowing for the time of year, the greens were in terrible shape, the fairways not much better, and the tee boxes were simply put, more dirt than grass but did see several traps that actually had sand in them. Based on the shape the course is in now one has to doubt that it will get much better in the spring or later.
Good Day
Course itself is good and fairways aren't too bad. You get a few very close lies in the fairway. Greens had been very recently sanded so a few of them were pretty rough but most were good. Good course for the money.
Staff and value unbeatable. Course is not in best condition but you will have a great day of golf.
not bad
This a relatively difficult course-there are some difficult carries and you need to be straight.Unfortunately some of the greens were quite sandy and so the speed varied a lot.The course needs some work and the staff could smile more but the price is fair and I would golf there again
Not the right time to review
After the hurrican in October and the dry spring it is not a fair time to review this course. Under the circumstances I think Island West was not bad at all
Island West - Needs a Face Lift
We did enjoy our round of golf at Island West and it is a nicely designed course. However, the course conditions are poor. The tee boxes are weeds and dirt, there is worn walking paths to and from the cart paths to the greens, the greens need attention, the cart paths are in poor condition and overall the landscaping needs attention. This potentially nice course needs a face lift.
The course is looking a little haggard . Needs some updates
Nice layout but wait until summer
My first time to play this course. While most courses in Bluffton are still dormant, Island West is in rougher shape than the rest. The greens are look painted and are very thin in many places.
Unfortunately the 1st, 2nd and 18th holes look great with greener tees and fairways. Maybe because the 1st and 2nd are on Hwy. 278? Why can't the rest of the course look the same? Will try again in the summer.
