Brunswick County:
Robertos Restaurant
OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NC (Nov. 29, 2001) No, there isnt much out here on this sliver of a barrier island off the coast of southern North Carolina.
That is the beauty of it all.
But you dont even have to search every nook and cranny of this Brunswick County vacation haven to find outstanding Italian food.
Robertos Restaurant, located on Beach Drive in the heart of the island, has everything from Grilled Yellow Fin Tuna Marinara to brick oven pizzas, and nothing on the menu will disappoint.

Yet, the more conservative eater can still opt for one of Robertos traditional Italian dishes, such as the Chicken or Eggplant Parmigiana, Spaghetti and Meatballs, or Lasagna. The brick oven pizzas, a popular item on this cool night, come in medium and large sizes and feature toppings ranging from pepperoni to hot banana peppers.
Robertos also offers stuffed crust pizza for crust lovers, an art form that entails taking the regular pizza, piling it up with toppings, slathering it with extra sauce, and covering it with crust. I informed my waitress that this might be the only time I get to eat at Robertos this year, so it was paramount that I compare and contrast the regular and stuffed pies.
She was more than happy to help me out. Admittedly, I am a huge fan of New York style pizza, so I gravitated towards the standard brick oven pizza with its thin, chewy crust.
With service that other restaurants can only dream of, and a menu that is worthy of the label fine dining its no wonder that Robertos experiences more repeat business than any restaurant on the Isle.
I have been coming here since the place opened, and its been one of the best place to eat out here for years, says an elderly gentleman who had just completed a round of golf at nearby Angles Trace Golf Links. It may be the best Italian place in Brunswick County, and if it were in Myrtle Beach, it would be one of the best there.
Strong words, considering the number of eateries down the road in North Myrtle and Myrtle Beach. But judging by the plates of appetizers, dinner and desert on my golfing friends table, he has sampled most everything Robertos has to offer.
If you can trick yourself into thinking you need appetizers, Robertos obliges with the standard issue Cheese Garlic Bread, Wings, Chicken Tenders and Mozzarella Cheese Sticks, but also weighs in with Mussels Marinara, Mussels Olio and Fried Mushroom none of which will run you more than $6.95.
If you are just looking for a cheap, quick bite, Robertos has an arsenal of hoagies that will out-duel any sandwich shop, any day of the week. The Meatball Grinder is the most popular choice, with homemade sausage and ground beef meatballs draped in provolone cheese and marinara sauce.
If you are on a family vacation, and you just cant get your five-year-old pumped up about Blackened Tuna Olio, Robertos has a kids menu with chicken fingers, pizza bread, and Spag Noodles.
Robertos has beer on draft, in the bottle, and wine by the glass and bottle. If youre coming off a really bad day on the links (or really good one), a full bar is available to concoct your favorite hot toddy.
