Nice Course, We Will Return
Although it a somewhat of a trip from Charlotte, this course is worth the drive due to the reasonable pricing and the condition of the greens.
Far too many courses in the Charlotte area have not only just raised prices again but they are not adjusting prices seasonally as is normally done this time of year. So rather that calculating in the back of my mind how much each hole is costing me to play, I can enjoy the remoteness and serenity a course like this can bring.
For an older design, it has more than enough character to keep a golfer engaged. Sure the fairways are a little tight in some places but if a challenge, for me, makes the game more enjoyable. If a ball does go astray, it is not a big ordeal to look for it as the people I have encountered there so far are friendly.
Great course for the money
Greens were in fantastic shape, rolled beautifully. Fairways and rough are going dormant for the winter so the ball is sitting nicely just about anywhere you hit. Since it wasn't cracking 50 degrees on Nov. 20, we pretty much had the place to ourselves so pace of play was ridiculously fast. This course is more than an hour drive for us but we try to play it at least once every month or two. It's a fair test and a bargain for what you pay. I wish there was a separate rating for snacks because White Plains is crazily cheap to purchase a hot dog, bottle of soda, chips and a candy bar at the turn. You won't find a less expensive golf course snack bar.
One note, and it's nothing against this course, I will never give five stars to any layout that isn't one of the bucket list courses we all know so well. (Eg. Pinehurst No. 2, Pebble Beach, etc.) I wish everyone would adjust their star ratings accordingly because five star reviews on layouts and overall ratings are far too common and have muddied the ranking system. Much like there's nothing wrong with a three-star football recruit coming to your favorite college there's nothing wrong with a three-star course rating. But a three star rating seems like a kiss of death on these ratings boards today. These boards need a reset, if you ask me.
Even when going into fall, Best Value around
Play this course at least once a month, saturday was not the best day weather wise with winds and a constant mist/light rain. But the greens were true and rolling smooth. Fairways were nice and healthy even considering the drought we are in. Tee Boxes as always are rough, but that can be said about most courses in Charlotte, but they charge 3 times as much. Staff is always friendly and pro shop has great prices on hats, shirts and clubs on consignment/for sale.
Great Value
Fantastic course for the money . Fun / challenging lay out . Lots of short par 4s that can easily put a 6 on your card . The par 5s are all you can handle . Greens are fast and true .
Worth the Drive
I’ve played this course twice now and find it a nice course to play, as an average golfer. The value is excellent. The greens have been in very good shape. The layout is not overly challenging, but just right for my handicap. The people are very friendly. I will play again.
Its golf
First off, the greens were very good. Nice carts and grass in the fairway. For the money pretty good. The tee boxes needed cutting and areas off the fairway were really rough and unplayable. Its out in the country which is nice and QUIET. Unfortunately I got behind a group that would not let me through even though there were two holes open in front of them, but that is not the golf course's fault. At one point they were actually behind me. I hit a drive after they were clear and one guy came back to his tee a re-teed behind my ball. never in my 40+ years of golf has the group in front of me been behind me. Again, not the course's fault.
white plains
enjoyed the roud fair ways need a little work but still can hit good off them. will play again and recomend the course to my friends.
Very good greens, very rough off the fairways
If you can stay in the fairways, you will find very good greens to hit. Off the fairways you will find tree roots and broken cart paths. Uncrowded course during the weekdays when I play. This is a country course with limited clubhouse facilities. There are no ball washers or watercoolers on the course. Hot deals are less than $25 and I have paid under $20 for a last minute deal. Worth the trip from Charlotte ever few weeks.
Hot but good day of golf.
Course was in good shape except for some of the tee boxes. Greens were in fine shape. Great value.
