One of the oldest and best conditioned courses on the Grand Strand, Beachwood Golf Club lies between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, in North Myrtle Beach.
Opened in 1968, the course has been described as "meat and potatoes." "The meat is the traditionally designed layout, the Bermuda grass greens and the mature conditions," a TravelGolf.com reviewer wrote. "The potatoes are the courteous, yet not overbearing customer service and the ample, yet never ornate clubhouse."
It's a Gene Hamm design, known for the par-3 18th hole over water. "While the green is not particularly large or small, just reaching the dance floor is the challenge presented to the average golfer," the reviewer said.
Tournaments have noticed. Tournament credits at Beachwood include the 1989 Carolina Open, the 1992 Golf Writers Of America, the Carolina PGA Seniors Championship, and the Dupont World Amateur Championship. The course is also known for its women-friendly attributes.
