Charleston National Golf Club
About
Marshland and natural lagoons make Charleston National a real gem to play. Architect Rees Jones and Greg Muirhead strategically placed wooden bridges over the natural areas which sometimes range from tee to green. Once tree laden, it's now a little more open, which may be to your advantage. A trip to Charleston National should be considered by any serious golfer visiting the Charleston area.

This course you NEED to hit fairways !!
Better water coolers on the greens . There had some green color to them at the water spout !!!
The greens were in poor condition
Nice layoout with scenic views. Played early as a single so pace of play was not an issue. Ran into one group who immediately offered to let me play through. Greens were recently punched, rough, and slow.
Great design but thats all
Great layout!! Tee boxes, fairways were not good!!
Some had no grass or long grass that affected tee height... Great clubhouse, nice staff! Sandwich at the turn was terrible! Will not be back! Too many good courses in the area to play again!
Nice back 9!
Pro shop was sluggish in the morning and caused us to be late for the scheduled tee time. However, the course turned out to be a nice one especially as the holes went on to the back! The beverage girl was extremely pleasant as well as the staff in the 19th hole. Not sure if I'll make it back, but the course layout may bring me back one day!
Interesting and pleasant course
The course was in great shape, helped probably by some limits on where carts can go.
The biggest factor here is the marsh. As a first-timer, it really makes for some interesting holes, as you're not always sure if you can carry them. Sand was the second challenge.
I enjoyed some of the surrounding neighborhood as well, and the scenic views (not dramatic, just natural and nice).
Challenging Course
Get a lot of different views. Plays thru and around marsh which is beautiful in the early hours, very muggy later in day. Greens were in good shape and flag tended to be in center most holes. Would love to play this course again. Would downsize my club selection on next round and try to stay out of trouble. Lotta bang for the buck and think most people would enjoy this course!!!
Course is in great shape
First time that I played this course. It was in great shape and was challenging in the set up. I enjoyed myself.
Great course play the back
Overall this is a fantastic course I could go back again and again. It has great length but is still reachable for the shorter players. Great shape and fun design.
Beautiful views
Very cool course. Fun to play. Intimidating par 3's over marsh. Jack Daniels mini bottle for $8. No food. Disappointing there. Should have great options for food.
Great After Work Round
Charleston National was in good shape. Tees, Fairways and Greens were all above average. I was out as a single after 5pm. and rarely had to wait. Finished 18 in about 3 hours. Well worth the GolfNow rate.
Great Course
Great Course, Tough Layout!! Beautiful Views!!!!!!
Great layout
If it was just course layout that we were talking about I would give Charleston national five stars across the board. Sadly there were some oddities that made this experience not quite as exceptional as it could've been. I arrived at 8:45 four 9:46 teatime thinking I could grab some breakfast and hit some balls on the range. Sadly the restaurant was ill-prepared for breakfast and only had a couple of danishes and coffee. And even more odd was the fact that the driving range was not opening until 10 AM. Now I've heard of driving range is being closed but opening two hours after your first tee time? It just didn't seem to make much sense to me and sadly hurt my round that day.
As for the course, the layout was fantastic with plenty of forced carrys over marshland, the greens were in great condition as were the fairways and tee boxes. I would recommend this course for anyone looking to play one of the better courses in the Charleston area as long as you are prepared not to get all the bells and whistles that you would get at Kiawah Island or Wild Dunes.
Great couse - Loved the layout and good condition
Course was really nice ---- challenging layout and in good condition. Greens were a bit slow but putted true. Lack of course knowledge hurt on a few holes so be sure to scout ahead as much as time allows. Played early AM as a twosome. Several groups ahead of us but we were never delayed. Played round in 3.5 hours.
So-so
Golf in this region is a bit more expensive, but an $80 course should be in better condition and have greens that roll faster than an 8. My cart came equipped with a scorecard and nothing else. No tees, no pencil. Scorecard looked shabby, when I turned it over it had some group's bets from an earlier round. Yes, tipped the cart guy, I wasn't being punished it may have just been an honest oversight. Tees make mid handicappers choose between 6400 And 5400 yards. One set too challenging for a target course and the other has you hitting irons off many tees. Was nice to golf, but I'm in no hurry to go back.
Charleston national
Course had a nice layout but was a bit dated. Yardage was hard to figure out because the lack of markings on some sprinkler heads etc. Would not pay that much to play again. Sorry
Play it if you can get on for $60.00 of less!
The course is very fun with many some interesting holes. Some were gimmies and some were very difficult for an average golfer like me. The condition of the fairways were in good and the greens were near perfect. The carts however, are not electric and were very noisy. I hope to play it again.
Great Course But Rushed
Excellent course, quick greens true roll, fairways and tee boxes in great shape. The only issue was a threesome behind our foursome playing seniors and women tees wanted us to play a 4-41/2 hour course in 3 hours with a slow twosome in front of us. In most cases there is at least a 60-70 yard difference between green/black tees and senior so it made for a rushed round to the point of not being enjoyable was going to let them play through but same was happening to them also. Tee times need to be spaced a little better I think.
Great place to play in the morning
Course was excellent but because if recent heavy rains many of the traps were unplayable with standing water but that was the only complaint. I got a great deal through GolfNow. I actually played the course twice during the week. Playing the course a second time helped a lot in knowing to where to hit the ball. Very nice place
