Reviews
great layout with very poor greens(had to paint them
Did not enjoy playing alone.Had a 1230 pm starting time and was told at noon that I could go out right away since there was a group going out later. The greens were painted and did not have any grass.I like kwick greens but this is stupid. The rest of the course and the layout is nice.
The Greens ruined what could have been fun
Ever had 45 putts in a round? I did at Black Bear. I should mention that I am a 3 handicap and was, for the most part trying to make each and every putt I faced. Try 18 on the Stimp Meter. It was ridiculous and coupled with the wind (15 - 20 mph) and some tricky pin placements it made for the worst kind of memorable day. I actually liked the course layout but the greens spoiled it. Would I play it again? Why bother?
Bill
Very slow play, course condition was good for March, I would suggest an early T time and expect a 6 hour round. I probably will not go back and play this course.
Good Opening Course
The area was in the coldest stretch of days in "decades". Course allows for the early "let it rip" shots that go off line, yet will test you with shots requiring accuracy.
Slow Play
Started out as cart path only , but later went to 90 deg. There were at ties 2 groups at the tee box one in the fairway and one on the green. Left after the 16th hole, and almost 5 hrs. of play.
Nice, fair
Pace of play was great. For time of year conditions of course was good. Greens rolled true. Staff friendly and professional.
Snack bar help was very helpfull. Nice enjoyable round of golf.
Newer Owners - Still a work in progress
Played this course 25 years ago when it was called Myrtle West, remembered very little other than it was in better shape back then. Course has been bought by a Chinese group, and improvements are being made.
Greens were dormant, and not over seeded which made for some very slick putts. The Tom Jackson design is decent with many finger lakes coming into play if you stray too far from the fairways.
One of the more reasonably priced courses on the strand.
quick greens and nice layout
fairways were still somewhat green for time of year; greens were remarkably quick and were blue-greenish in color, presumably from overseeding. very nice layout and enjoyable experience although would have preferred carts on fairway rather than cart path only. no GPS, but, yardage insert provided at clubhouse was most helpful.
great course/ great people
94/100. was a nice course and great people. Course let me experience the course without a bit of rush in my play at all. will def. be going back.
Enjoyable round
Have played this course in the summer but never in the fall. Course was in nice shape, completed round in 3 1/2 hours. Staff was friendly & will play here again.
Great track for the average golfer!
A very nice course with interesting holes and friendly staff. Very reasonable distance to carry fairways for seniors, thank you. Fairways in good condition and greens putted true. Nice weather day in early Nov. brought out lots of golfers which made play a little slow but didn't take away from an enjoyable experience.
ok
Good course lousy drainage. Played after a previous days rain, still very wet with water pooling on most shots. Not their fault lowlying area. OK course for $42 wouldn't pay more.
Staff Friendly
Staff was very friendly courteous and very accommidating. I liked the layout of the course. I will come back and play the course again.
H2O Challenging Golf Course
Great challenge for a long baller,
thick rough
nice finishing hole 18
Ace at the base
A very enjoyable course. Layout made it a very interesting round, in addition to my hole-in-one on 13. Will definitely play it again when back in the area.
Extremely friendly staff
We actually were rained out on 29 Dec but was rescheduled to pay on 1 Jan. Staff was extremely accommodating with rescheduling the tee time. Would recommend the course to my friends.
Enjoyable round
Played while on winter break. Had frost delay in am but got out in timely manner. For a lot of rain course in good condition. Greens were in great shape. I guess due to delay and warm afternoon round backed up on back nine( we were second group off in am) I m assuming due to starting off groups on back nine. Delayed an otherwise great pace of play would play again
Good course, friendly staff
Overall a good value. A challenging course for the intermediate golfer. Water and tree lined holes allowed for a challange on almost every hole. Was not crowded and was able to get off as a twosome with my best friend, Marvin. We had a great time and would recommend to others while in MB.
Great value for price
Tee time was 130 and we arrived about45 minutes early. We were greeted as if we were regulars and got out on course right away.i only get out a few times a year and found the course just right as far as level of play. The greens were in good shape and not set up to be so fast that the slightest putt went 30 feet which I appreciated.
Challenging, but not overly difficult.
A great value, not crowded, and a super friendly staff.
Played again on April 6th, greens are still the worst part of this course. They are still mostly dormant but showing signs of unwanted clumps of poa annua and bermuda that made for an uneven putting surface.
