My Favorite Island Course

I take a few employees/coworkers/friends to HHI every spring for a guys weekend of golf. I booked the round through golf now on April 4th.. My 4some arrived and on May 5th about 25 mins ahead of our tee time. We walked into the proshop to check in and the gentleman became a bit aggravated when I told him that I booked on golfnow. He shook his head & stated "You guys are killing me, we've told golfnow to stop providing noon tee times for today, you're the 3rd person with a noon tee time today; you booked this morning right!?" I was surprised by his attitude, mannerisms & comment because it was totally the opposite of the welcome we received in 2016. I explained that I booked our round on April 4. His attitude immediately changed and he became friendly & helped with beer accommodations. IMO, the gentleman shouldn't have displayed his frustration to guest because guest have no control over the course or golfnow. The course was in just as beautiful condition as it was in 2016. Tee were boxes flat, fairways cut to perfection and the greens were perfect; not to hard, not too soft and they were smooth. Unlike 2016, the pace of play was a bit daunting. Tee times seemed to be assigned about every 7 minutes and multiple 2sums were not paired up to make a 4somes. We had a 3sum and 4sum in front of us and multiple 2sums behind us. This pace of play became cumbersome due to the bottleneck. For my group, It was hurry up and wait all afternoon. It was a mental challenge trying overcome being pushed all afternoon with nowhere to go. Maybe this was a result of a third party and why the gentleman became aggravated when my 4some checked in. My 4sum was relieved when the round was over. Dolphin Head is my favorite island course. From experience we learned that Dolphin Head conditions are the same as one of the $120 courses. To anyone reading this review trying to decide where to play, save yourself at least $60 and play DH instead of one of the pricier courses if you don't mind not having GPS yardage assistance Even after our 2017 experience, we'll be back next year!

User friendly

Nice course previously private and very well maintained, hope it stays that way. Just challenging enough for myself and husband. Sloping greens and nice pace. Thought it was fairly friendly until the 9th hole and 18 hole, both surrounded by water.
The staff were very nice and accommodating. It was a quiet day and it seemed we were the only ones on the course , so I can't really speak to pace of play. Definitely would like to play again while in HHH.

Typical brown brothers course, course conditions need to be better but unlike other brown brothers courses this one doesn't compensate by being inexpensive, 64 usd plus tax is way too much for this course

Windy day

First time playing Dolphin Head and was very impressed with course. Tough but fair. Fairways and greens were excellent. Some of tee boxes were a little rough, but no problem for me. After all, it is a "tee box", and that means you put ball on tee and hit it. Staff was cordial and I was able to pair up with a couple of guys from Texas and we had fun. The wind was brutal, but that is what you get on Hilton Head sometimes. Would definitely recommend this course.

Sub-Division course

The course was OK, but had no views of any interest, just a lot of homes/condo's.
The day I played was the day before a junior competition, so there were several groups doing a practice round and playing multiple golf balls on each hole, so the pace was quite slow!

First taste of Hilton Head golf

Dolphin Head was my first golf and only golf on this trip to Hilton Head. It was a very challenging start with a narrow par 5. (But not a long hole.) I look at this course as a position course. It has fair but challenging layout. Important to play the tees appropriate to your game.

It is a beautiful course! The greens are very good condition. They are moderately fast, but not extremely fast, very manageable. Fairways are in great condition. I never had a bad lye in the fairway.

I would play this again when I visit Hilton Head!

Hilton Head Golf

Great track. We used 4 of the 6 tees and we all had an enjoyable round. Course was in good shape as the Bermuda is starting to transition in. Greens were very good and consistent. Pace of play was at 4:15. I would hope that Brown Golf keeps this course in its current status and not let it deteriorate like its off island courses have.

Stay below the pin!

Greens are fast and challenging! Course is recovering well from hurricane damage .
Club staff are willing to find you the best possible rate. Outside staff are very professional and friendly same goes for Pro shop and restaurant.
Cons
Restaurant closes somewhat early .
Members don't seem to realize how hard the golf course staff work to take care of there day to day needs specially the outside staff !
All -n- All again the staff and Alligators are very friendly
If your ever vacationing Hilton head give this course a try !

Great course, but disrespectful maintenance crew.

Really nice layout, in great shape, for a fair price. One of the better tracks we played this time in the area. We played 12 holes in about 2 hours, then we hit a wall... it was going to take close to 3 hours to finish the back, and we had to leave after hole 15 to meet family for dinner. Plenty of water to drink, and all of the staff was nice except for a guy running this massive pull behind leaf blower, who followed us all around most of the back 9. He was blowing every hole from tee to green, and was not even stopping while you were teeing off or around the greens , putting or chipping. The blower guy followed us for 4 or 5 holes and had us really flustered by the time his work was done. I didn't bother to say anything to the shop, but I felt the need to comment on it here.

fun day

I arrive early and had a good warm-up on the driving range, with a little chippin and puttin. These facilities were well located and in good condition. Definitely improved my round of golf. Great little gem!

find a partner

This course is beautiful, staff are easy going and attentive. Very friendly! I was a single and my playing partner was difficult needed the play by himself. This was the only negative to what should have been a wonderful round of golf at a great course. Would diffenetly recommend giving it a spin.

Dolphin Head Golf Course

I always enjoy playing different courses I haven't played, and did this course too. It was a good layout, greens were good speed, fairways needed some fertilizer, and the only problem I had was the price is tooo high for the overall conditions!
