General James Hackler Golf Course at Coastal Carolina UniversityA new name, new owner and a renovation have reinvigorated the former Quail Creek Golf Course in Conway, S.C. Nearby Coastal Carolina University purchased the Gene Hamm-designed course in 2010 and hired Craig Schreiner to update the course's greens. He redid all the greens with Mini-Verde Bermuda and moved the putting surfaces on No. 2 and No. 18 closer to water hazards. He removed 60 bunkers, replacing many of them with penal rough. After the work was completed in fall, 2011, the golf course was renamed the General James Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University after the man who created the first Myrtle Beach golf vacation package.
