Cobb's Glen Country Club is named after its designer, George Cobb, a Georgia native who lived in Greenville most of his life. He designed many golf courses in the South, including the par-3 course at Augusta National. The golf course sprawls across rolling terrain blanketed with mature forests. Opened in 1976, the layout may be more traditional than modern golf courses but it still presents one of the area's most formidable challenges. The course has hosted a variety of events over the years including the U.S. Open Qualifier and the South Carolina Amateur Championship. There are 90 bunkers strategically placed throughout, and the greens are lightning fast. The 11th is one of the most memorable holes. This par 3 plays over water to a triple-tiered green that is flanked by three bunkers on the right, one for each tier.

Course is much better than in the past. They allow 5somes but not six. Best in area, no doubt about it!

Needless to say I was very disappointed about Cobbs Glen. I had heard so much positive talk since moving to this area about Cobbs Glen that I had expected much more. Clearly the biggest problem was that the course allows multiple groups to play together. We had a six-some in front of us, 3 carts and six players!! Three times we come upon them on tee boxes and not once did they let us play through. There no rangers on the course to keep the pace of play moving. The grounds crew cuts the fairways and leaves the clippings in the fairways instead of picking them up or using blowers to get the clippings off the fairways. The sand traps are NOT sand. They are filled with a mixture of sand and dirt and clay. Most of them were filled with water and were unplayable. The tees boxes have little if any grass or sod on them. It was a five hour round for a twosome due the slow play of the sixsome in front of us. It will be time before I return to Cobbs Glen.

Great golf course at a great price! Definitely the best course I have played in the Anderson area. Designed by George Cobb, it is challeging, and the greens have recently been rebuilt (Fall 2012). They have put a lot of work into the course since the last time I played here. It looks great!
