One of my favorites
This course is a fantastic layout. The final three holes are some of the nicest in the area.
Not what I expected
I booked this course on Golf Now. The course is in a beautiful location but the staff wasn’t too friendly . I felt rushed through the check in process from dropping off my clubs until I teed off. After our round was finished my wife and I were going to have a drink in the lounge but they had closed by 5:00pm. Hmmmm...
Windy Day
Quiet day with lots of wind. Course needs lots of work on the sand traps. Other than that good day, played in under 4 hours.
Brilliant Design That Needs A Tweak
This is my *favorite* course on the entire grand Strand. The layout is brilliant, with no two holes alike. If on vacation, you'll remember each hole weeks after you get back home. The closing four holes play along a huge marshland, with stunning views. Short and long par fours mean you'll hit a variety of clubs for approach shots.
That said, the par 5 9th hole (playing along the same marsh, in the opposite direction), desperately needs to be fixed. The tee shot is into an enormously wide fairway, with the second shot over the marsh to a narrow strip of fairway, angling away from you the further left you go, ending a a peninsula green that is only 11 yards wide, but almost 50 yards deep. The narrow ground in front of the green, as well as the green itself, has been sinking along its left side (from approach direction) for years. It is *impossible* to play a "run-up" shot to the narrow green, and balls that land on the green roll off the left side into the marsh. During this round, I hit a chip shot 20 yards from the front of the green to the *right* side of the flag, and watched the ball roll practically the entire 11 yard width of the green down and off the left side of the green, into the marsh. If this can't be fixed, the club should consider eliminating the last 100 yards of the hole, and make it a long par 4.
Soggy day
Unfortunately the day I played it was very wet. Cart part only. The course was draining nicely and the greens were slower but in great shape. I was surprised how great the course played
Great layout but needs attention
This course has always been a favorite but my last visit was a big disappointment. The signature hole, number 9, is closed and is being played as a makshift par 3. Many trees are being removed, why? The bunkers are in terrible shape. The waste areas are in terrible shape. During our round on a very nice, sunny day we saw no one on the entire course that was doing anything about the bunkers, which were mostly unplayable. Sadly, I will not be playing this course again unless I find that the conditions have improved.
Interesting latout
This was my first time playing this golf course. And I love the interesting layout especially number nine. There are some great picturesque views and the course is well-maintained. I understand due to the season to protect the greens they will let them grow out. Unfortunately this does slow them down a lot . But if slow greens are my only complaint about this course that it should encourage you to play this course.
My Birthday present to myself
Could have been playing with Arnold Palmer and in warmer weather otherwise it was perfect.
Beautiful course on the marsh, challenging as always, but fun! Overseeing will help making playable all winter!
Very Wet...CPO
Approx. 1/2 the tee boxes were pretty thin and in rough shape.
The fairways were very wet and muddy so it was cart path only. I think they are rye grass and have been seeded, which requires watering, and therefore wet and CPO.
The greens were in fairly good shape and one of the reasons I love to play this course.
I'm not sure if it was the group in front of us but many of the bunkers were not raked, at least the few that I found myself in. I tried to rake some of the bunkers even if I wasn't in them.
I was paired with another single and a twosome and we had an enjoyable round, however we waited a little on the group in front of us and slowed down. As soon as we did that a ranger told us to pick up the pace. there was a twosome behind us who preferred to play as a twosome, but obviously they were going to have to wait a little once in a while.
Well we finished in just over 4 hours, which I think was fairly quick considering it was CPO.
Based on the conditions I think I'll wait until mid to late spring to play this course again. But the views and the layout are well worth the drive if you're in the area!
A definite must play course
This was my first time playing here and I was highly impressed. Very large group playing ahead of me and Fairways very wet so hard to get in a consistent groove, but still had enjoyable time playing and excellent layout. Significant contrast between front and back 9’s. Back was very picturesque. Hole 9 is by far the best hole on the course and very challenging! Will be back to play again and looking forward to playing in different conditions.
beautiful course but poor condition
The greens were great ( fast and smooth). The fairways was like a swamp, I've played several courses in the area the past month and this was by far the worse fairways.
disappointed
Many waste areas have deteriorate all around the course and a good clean up is needed to get it back into great shape .
Beautiful marsh views, challenging course
Beautiful setting with some very challenging & picturesque holes. Fun round, very friendly staff. Would play here again...
The Thrill Ride Continues
This is my favorite course on the entire Myrtle Beach Grand Strand, and I've played it more than any other. What stands out about it is that no two holes are remotely alike, so you can a round there and remember every hole when spending time at the 19th hole. The layout is challenging, with cliff-hangers like the short par 3 5th hole, downhill, over a marsh, and the roller coaster par 5 9th, where you drive into a 40 yd wide fairway, but then must carry a long marsh to a sliver of fairway angled 90 degrees to the direction of the fairway your tee shot sits in. If that's not enough, your third shot is to a peninsula green 50 yards deep and only 13 yds wide. At low tide you can see the thousands of balls that failed to make it safely from the initial fairway, or the approach to the green. the final four holes is one of the best stretches in golf, all playing along the marsh sitting on the right side of each hole. The 17th par 5 has a band of marsh 60 yards short of the green, and a tree in front of the right portion of the green, which is angled downhill to the right, so any approach hit with cut spin left of that tree will filter down to the right side of the green. The final hole, a short par 4, has a green set in an amphitheater setting, with hi8gh ground and the clubhouse left and rear, and the marsh to the right.
Ebeautiful lay out. Super slow play
Course is one of the top courses in the Myrtle Beach area. They had over 200 golfers this day so play was slow. Great course
We do apologize for your experience on your most recent visit. We are actively renovating several major areas of the golf course in our off season, which we have posted signage on the website, around clubhouse and reminders from our staff prior to tee off. Mother nature has been very unkind to us during this time period. We certainly want our customers to enjoy their experience at the Edge. If you wish to follow up we would like to have you back for a more pleasurable experience. Please visit our website and email me directly for an update on our renovations.
