Course needs serious work.
Every thing about this course is rundown. You can't tell where the clubhouse entrance is, the golf carts are old and barely work, the course is not maintained and it is only 9 holes so if you book 18 you have to play the same holes over again.
Don't waste your time
Course is in poor condition. If you can get the $1.00 hot deal its fine for working on your game but don't keep score!
Only 9 holes. Terrible shape. Will not play there again.
Not worth playing. Maintenance very poor. Would not recommend.
The course needs some work
Thought the holes were challenging especially the final two holes and #8 in particular.
Great 9 hole course, just off Hilton Head Island
This is a great 9 hole course, with tee boxes to make an 18 hole course.
Plenty of hazards and bunkers to keep it interesting.
GOAT TRACK
NOT MAINTAINED,MOLE CRICKETS , NO GRASS, BAD,BAD,BAD
Overall course
The course was very wet when we played, which we expected but overall was in good shape and was challenging at times expecially if you get off the fairway. We played early and were the only people there. Was like having your own course.
The course is in really bad shape and only has 9 holes. Golfnow ad can be misleading.
Several years ago (2007 or 2008) the course was really challenging but they had financial problems, closed 9 holes and built homes. It is now in horrible shape, especially the greens. We have played there the last few years with our young grandsons (ages 8-11). It works well for them because there is no one there so we are able to take our time. But, it is not a course that I would choose to play under any other cirmstances.
this course will test your short game approach shots , rough is also a good test for creative shots
The course isa great place to practice your short game , the rough will make you pay attention to the correct club selection on the tee.
Avoid regardless of the price
Once was a nice course but in now only 9 holes and in complete disarray. Looks to be going out of business. Pro shop attendant was cordial but had to go out to cart barn and prep carts while we waited. Appears that they have not applied fertilizer or insecticides in some time. Most greens are a mix of grass and sand and many have numerous small ant hills all over them. Rough is nonexistent - what is growing is mostly weeds and generally it's just dead matter and sand. Literally worst conditions I have ever play on in 30 years. Only plus side is that the course was nearly empty but not worth it at any price.
Unfortunate.
Played here many years ago - it was 18 holes, well maintained and challenging. Now, due to financial issues, it is 9 holes, and in need of lots of help. The greens are bumpy, slow, and 50% of their original size. It's rough. A good place to take juniors or beginners to get them some practice without pressure.
Old Carolina has seen better days
You can tell from the layout that this was a worthy challenge in its day. It seems to cater the gated community who seem happy with it's existence.
This is only a 9 hole course and you play it twice from different tee boxes.
Lots of hazards, some of which you can't see unless you've played here before; a good amount of rough (because they don't mow?), water hazards in just the right locations to catch the average golfer (guilty), and weedy greens.
Not great experience
I was disappointed in this course. Although the fee was for 18 holes, I did not discover it was only a 9 hole course until I received reservation confirmation. The greens had very little grass and the fairways were not properly maintained. However, the rate was cheap. I guess we got what we paid for.
Too bad!
I played this course years ago when it was being taken care of. Only a skeleton remains of a once nice course. For the price of a cart fee it seems wrong to complain but this is sad. The owner needs to either close it or put some money into it. Right now it is just a pitiful mess!
Horrible. Very poor conditions. Greens unputtable
Very poor condition. Course should be taken off log now
This course is not 'public' friendly
I arrived at 8:20 for an 8:40 tee time. The parking lot was empty and there was no way to tell if the pro shop was even open. I did discuss this with the desk person and he admitted it is an issue.
Since this is a 9 hole course, there are two separate holes for 9/18 that run parallel. From my tee shot landing spot, I saw two people on the left hand green that appeared to be practicing. Once they noticed me, they walked off. I concluded that this must be a practice green and hit to the right. When I got to the green, the same two people were now on the right hand green. I walked over to my ball and asked what was going on? It turns out, it was the club pro giving a lesson. I was very unhappy that I had hit to the WRONG green. Although an apology was expressed, I feel it is inexcusable to be using the active course for lessons. Additionally, when I approached the 18th tee, the same two were now practicing from the 9th (parallel) tee. As for the course conditions, they were fair at best, including the greens.
good practice course
Nice challenging layout, but too short---next time I'll move to the back tees. Greens need lots of attention but didn't have any bare spots--just some funky kind of grass and very slow. Great value for the money--18 w/cart for $18 (on Golfnow)---rough was very rough and the fairways were a little sparse of quality grass but no bare spots. Great practice course or for beginners or just to get outside and swing a club and not be pushed or held up by the groups ahead and behind you!!!
